11/14/25 Today is 26 days into the 22 day batch processing period for the 501c3 number. The IRS came back from furlough day before yesterday, so I don’t know if the 22 days starts afresh, or if some progress has been made. In any case, my ducks are still swimming.
In the meantime, I have about 2000 books ready to donate to various groups. I have bookmarks ready to go do the printer. I have a Paypal charity account ready for verification.
I have soooooo many ideas, where to go with this. I am going to start by going to all of the existing groups – the Friends of the Libraries groups for example, and finding out what books they need, what they have extra, what they do, and how their demographics work. That will be a big part of the first steps – figuring out who is doing what, how, and what pieces aren’t quite fitting.
At the same time, I’m going to recruit for volunteers, to help with book donations and distribution. Pick up, sorting, drop off. I have so many out-of-the-box ideas on how to get books to end-users, and I’ll need people to help!
I want to get books into bars and cafes and laundromats and dentist’s offices. I asked my dentist, if they still have the covid restrictions on not allowing things in. She said that they have magazines again. I asked what she thought, about having someone bring the large art books that are hard to find homes for, and put them on the table for people to look at while they wait. She thought that would be a wonderful idea! (I think so too!) So one of my first acts will be to find someone who loves to talk to people, and wants to take on the “Libraries in places” project. (And who wants to come up with a better name for it, lol. In fact, please make a comment if you have a better name.)
Ugh, this still feels like such a drab and boring journal entry. This is all still the beginning stuff, the paperwork stuff. I am in my little cocoon, not making contact with humans. It feels stifled in here. But I’m ready to launch, the moment I get that 501!
